Escape the ‘I Can’t Afford It’ Excuse

I’ve been hearing a lot lately about the struggle to make money in business. The biggest complaint or problem is that people are hearing from their prospects is, I would love to…but…I can’t afford that.

The I can’t afford it syndrome is universal and is the default answer almost everyone has…unless they understand that what they are buying has real value. That it’s valuable enough to solve their problem.

People will spend money ONLY when they feel that what they are buying is more valuable than the price of the purchase.

So the real question is this:  Are you showing value in what you are selling?

The next question is: How do you show value?

Value all starts with You.

Do you confidently ask someone to buy your stuff? Do you believe 100% that what you have is worth the price you are asking?  Too high? Too low?

Your price reflects the confidence and the belief you have in yourself.

I’m not talking about confidence or belief in the product or the service  (because you KNOW that what you’ve got is going to change someone’s life for the better), but your belief in YOU.

So the struggle is not really battling the I can’t afford it syndrome, it is really an inner struggle. A self worth struggle.

Mastering the Inner Game (the headspace, the mindset) is what will set you free and you will never be affected by the I can’t afford it syndrome.

Why? How? My colleague Michelle Barr says it beautifully (check her out at www.michellebarr.com)

First let’s check in with where you are …
Are you living the life and building the business you love?…
Or are you living your life by default?

Too many people never take the right action, any action or enough action on what they say they want.

There is a consequence to every decision you make, but a BIGGER consequence to not getting to live the life you truly desire. Why? It eats away at you and you don’t even know it.

So I want you to think about what you want most…How long have you wanted it and not had it? How much longer will you go without it?

There is a choice point in every moment that is either going to move you forward or backward to what you truly desire. Your dream is your belief anchor and what stops it from taking a strong hold is the answer to this question: “What are you tolerating in your life?” What are you putting up with (or who are you putting up with)?

When you resist what you truly want, you default to what you are tolerating and what you think you deserve. You resist out of fear; fear of failure.

How do you get what you want?

1. Remove the resistance. By doing that, you remove the fear.
2. Choose to go after your dream. Stop talking about why you can’t have it. We are all given the gift of choice. Use yours.
3. Take aligned action (not blind action) with that choice.

Many of you are stopped by that fear of failure or the thought of ‘what if it doesn’t work?’

Failure is only a result, it’s the emotion you attach to that result that is the problem. You attach meaning coming from your core belief about yourself.

You don’t see things as they are, you see things as YOU are.

The result of removing those tolerations and helping yourself move forward is that you will EVOLVE and GROW with your dream and your life and business will support and sustain that dream.

We need to heal our past stories to break the cycle, otherwise we pass our historic beliefs onto our children (the way our parents did, and their parents did, and so on).

You don’t need more experience, more money or more time, you just need more courage.

So where are you going to look for yours?
